Semana 25

 Que tal mis chamigos

We had a great week this week! This email's gonna be a recap of the past three-ish weeks because I definitely forgot to add a bunch of stuff in last week's email, so here's the highlights:

  • On divisions a few weeks ago with the Zone Leaders, Elder Scott and I were teaching a lesson to a less active family in their ward. Most of the family didn't seem too interested, but one of the sons seemed to be listening pretty intently. We made it to the end of the lesson, and we invited the son to read the Book of Mormon and pray to know if it is true. In response, his mom said "Oh Elders my apologies, my son is deaf." So as it turns out he was not, in fact, listening intently. Then he stood up and said "Hey guys wanna see my pet monkey?" Obviously we said yes, so he waddled into his house and brought out his monkey named Nicolás. Unfortunate that he is deaf but definitely super cool that he has a monkey
  • A couple weeks ago, one of our families that we are teaching decided to up and move to a neighborhood in the middle of the jungle without telling us. Luckily we were able to find them after a good hour of hiking through the Jungle, and they told us that they're still interested in being taught. They also introduced us to about 10 of their friends/family who live in the same town, so we've been teaching them as well. Everything ended up working out in the end, especially because 4 of our new friends from the Jungle came to church yesterday!
  • As I mentioned above, we've been hiking back and forth through the jungle a bunch these past couple of weeks. Here's a list of things we've seen along the way:
  1. Toucans
  2. Parakeets
  3. Butterflies the size of birds
  4. Gila Monsters (or some kind of large reptile, I'm no expert)
  5. Small venomous snakes
  6. Jaguar Tracks
  7. Large venomous snakes
  8. An old dude taking a bath
  9. Cows
  • The mission instituted an English Ban at our last multizona, which has honestly been super nice... I've been wanting to switch over to only Spanish for a while now, but it's been hard to do that training a missionary who doesn't speak much Spanish. However, now that English is off-limits, it's been nice to work on my Spanish all day, every day!
  • Elder Yetter did not swear in any lessons this week or call anyone mentally challenged
  • Last night at a member dinner I was telling one of my homies Miguelito about my Lightning McQueen Crocs that I've got sitting at home, and he responded with the quote of the week: "The only thing I can say to describe that is ULTRA SUERTE" (Ultra Lucky)
  • This week, I finished reading el Libro de Mormón in Spanish for the first time! I started at the very beginning on June 6th, and I finished this Thursday, accomplishing my goal of reading the whole thing within the first 6 months of my mission!
  • Transfers were this week, and luckily I'm staying in San Vicente for at least the next 5 weeks! Grateful to be chilling down here in Misiones while I still can, because I'm pretty sure that when transfers come around again, I might not be so lucky
Thanks for the love and support! Let me know how you're doing!

Cuernos Abajo,

Elder Johnson
