Semanas 29-30 Campeones del Mundo, Cumplí 20 y Feliz Navidad

VAMOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOS ARGENTINA!!! Also feliz navidad :)

These past two weeks have been super crazy and I didn't send an email last week, so merry christmas - this email's a bit longer than usual.

Highlights:
  • I have never felt so much national pride for a country where I am not a citizen. Argentina took the fattest of all W´s last week in the World Cup and when we won, it was like the world exploded
  • Leading up to the World Cup game last Sunday it was essentially as if we were back in quarantine, we walked the empty streets to get to appointments and if we stopped by a house the people looked at us like we had the plague
  • About once a day I hear a new fable or campfire story about Messi and his childhood, yesterday it was that he only drinks pure rain water because "he can only drink water that comes straight from the Lord himself"
  • We had our weekly planning session during the final match, and I'm not gonna lie it was pretty difficult to focus. After about 10 minutes of attempting to plan out the week with gunshots, fireworks, and screaming Argentinos outside we decided to just bag it and watch the score update on Google
  • I've attached a few pictures below of our reaction to Argentina winning below, enjoy
  • About 5 minutes after the game ended we headed out into the streets, which had already exploded with people going crazy. San Vicente isn't a big city, but even so every street was filled with people just going nuts. It was so hype but unfortunately we didn't get to do much missionary work that night, lots of people doing Durag Activities (unlawful acts for those of you not familiar with the term)
  • Had divisions last Wednesday with Elder Salazar, a new elder in Puerto Rico. I found out that he has a herniated disc in his spine shortly after we took a hike through the jungle and up a mountain
  • "Fast" by Juice WRLD has never hit harder than it did at 11:00 pm on December 22nd, 2022. Probably would've cried if I were allowed to listen to music
  • Turned 20 on Friday, feels super weird to not be a teenager anymore
  • The Branch had a big Christmas party on Friday night, and my homie Miguel taught me that on your birthday in Argentina, you get your ears yanked for as many years as you are old. I made it to about 3 ear-yanks and quickly decided that I didn't want to participate in the tradition anymore
  • The door to the chapel decided to not work on Christmas Eve, so Elder Yetter and I had to find a way to break into the chapel without damaging church property. Luckily the Landlord of the building walked by and showed us how to
  • We had a Baptism planned for the 25th but unfortunately our homie Nestor didn't want to walk to his Baptismal Interview :( so that didn't happen but no worries because in his defense I do believe that he needs a leg amputation
  • Christmas day ended up being really awesome! Elder Yetter and I made some Christmas Cards to give to all of our member friends and recent converts. I was expecting people to not be happy to see us on Christmas Day, but to my surprise at every house we visited, everyone was super excited that we came by and even more excited that we brought a Christmas Card. Everyone expressed their gratitude for us and for what we do, which was a different but welcome reaction to a visit from the Missionaries. Yesterday was definitely a different Christmas, but it was my first Christmas where I spent the whole day looking for ways to share light, love, and happiness with others. And for that, I don't think I'll ever forget Christmas 2022
Thanks to everyone who reached out, especially those of you who wished me a Happy Birthday and a Merry Christmas. I am super lucky and very grateful that I have such an amazing support group behind me. Thanks for everything, and as always, reach out and let me know how you're doing!!
